This is one of my favorite Island weekends. It's Christmas in Edgartown. We've left behind the busy summer season, but the Island comes alive for one more weekend before the quiet winter. Here are the top events that I have on my list for this year:
Donaroma's Nursery, ’Twas the Night Before Christmas - Thursday, December 12, 5pm to 9pm
Kick off Christmas in Edgartown weekend and join the enchanting elves at Donaroma’s for a very special ’Twas the Night Before Christmas celebration. Decorations and characters from the favorite story by Clement Clarke Moore. Decked out in its holiday finest, Donaroma’s offers all the magic and wonder of the season with kids activities, holiday wish tree, decorated boxwood tree raffle and more! Refreshments for all! Free admission! Donaroma’s Light Show 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the parking lot, set to festive music on 87.9 FM.
Lighting of the Lighthouse - Friday, December 13, 5:30pm to 6:15pm
A time honored tradition, Edgartown’s version of a tree lighting is full of seaside village charm. Thank you to the MV Museum for the annual holiday lighting of the Edgartown Lighthouse, which takes place at 6 p.m. sharp, with help from Martha’s Vineyard 4-H. Come celebrate at Memorial Wharf for a great viewing spot and countdown! Beginning at 5:30 p.m. there will be Edgartown’s favorite mascots, non-profit concessions by the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club, caroling, give-aways, and maybe the man in red himself! This fun event is brought to you by the Edgartown Board of Trade. If you wish to watch the lighting from the Harbor View Hotel, you must make reservations with Bettini Restaurant.
Plum Hill School Elves Faire - Saturday, December 14, 10am to 2pm at The Federated Church
Not to be missed if you have kids in tow... The Elves Fair is back to benefit the Plum Hill School, a Christmas in Edgartown tradition. Make your own gingerbread houses, beeswax candles, and more. Warm up with lunch at the Elves Cafe and visit the Waldorf gift shop for handmade toys and books. The silent auction is now digital so there is more room for crafting, eating, shopping and enjoying the holiday spirit together. Please email [email protected] with questions.
Edgartown Patrolman's Association Stuff-A-Bus - Saturday, December 14, 10am to 4pm
Help the Edgartown Police Department bring joy to Island families this season. Bring a gift to their annual Stuff-A-Bus event. All toys will be donated to the Red Stocking Fund, which ensures the toys donated go to local families.

⁂ They cannot accept electronic gifts (tablets, cell phones, video games, etc.).
⁂ Most requested items include: Legos, action figures, baby dolls, sports equipment, and bikes.
⁂ If you cannot make it to Christmas in Edgartown, donations can be dropped off at the Police Department starting December 1st.

Christmas in Edgartown Parade - Saturday, December 14, 2024 11am to 11:45am
Come down for the holiday magic on Main street! Don’t miss the fun — floats, animals, music, dancers, kids, fire engines, and, of course, Santa. The parade will take place on Main street between Pease’s Point Way and Water street, rain or shine.
With so much to do during Christmas in Edgartown, it's hard to find time to eat!

Minnesingers Annual Holiday Concert - Friday and Saturday Night, Old Whaling Church
A holiday tradition for 32 years during Christmas in Edgartown weekend. Ring in the holidays with the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School Minnesingers as they fill the beautiful and historic Old Whaling Church with the sounds of the season. Benefit concert for the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School choral group, Minnesingers, and Vineyard Preservation Trust. Visit vineyardtrust.org/events/ to reserve your tickets.

Grinchmas in Edgartown with Island Autism Group - Saturday, December 14, 2024 11:45am to 2pm, 22 Winter St

Celebrating its 14th enchanting year, the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite fundraiser is a magical holiday tradition where family memories are made. Horse Drawn Carriage Rides - Harbor View Hotel
The carriage ride will take you by beautifully decorated homes, picturesque meadows overlooking the ocean, Eel Pond, historic Edgartown village dressed in garland and bows, and Edgartown Harbor. Cozy up with hot cider and a warm throw during this festive time of year. Harbor View Hotel and the Edgartown Board of Trade offer a $150 promotional rate for horse-drawn carriage rides during Christmas in Edgartown. The maximum number of guests per ride is six. This will include a 30-minute private ride starting at Harbor View Hotel and around Edgartown in a festive horse-drawn carriage.
Dickens Christmas Village at The Carnegie - Carnegie Heritage Center
The collection is made up of hundreds of individual pieces that Ms. Brown has meticulously amassed since 1998, all sold by collectible figurine purveyor Department 56. Many of the figures were gifts from friends and family, she said, but the early days of her collecting began at Fligor’s department store, formerly located on North Water street in Edgartown, just down the street from the current exhibit. A $5 donation is suggested to benefit The Carnegie Heritage Center.
